A grade 1 pupil has died from allegedly eating biscuits from a local spaza shop believed to be owned by a foreign national.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The learner from Mandlethu Primary School in Tsakane, Brakpan in the East Rand, was pronounced dead by paramedics upon arrival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is understood that she began experiencing health complications in class and started vomiting shortly after.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gauteng Education says it will deploy psychologists to the school to provide trauma support and counseling to all affected individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The provincial MEC, Matome Chilone, has extended his condolences and called on law enforcement and municipal officials to be strict on compliance matters related to spaza shop products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are deeply saddened by this unfortunate incident. We plead with parents to be vigilant concerning the edible goods that their children consume. We call upon law enforcement agencies and municipalities to be more stringent on compliance matters related to spaza shop products.
