The Gauteng government is partnering with security system supplier Vuma Cam to install 6,000 CCTV cameras in crime hotspots across the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Gauteng Provincial Legislature\u2019s Portfolio Committee on Community Safety said the agreement is a crucial step and pivotal milestone in leveraging technology to detect, prevent, and respond to criminal activities effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCrime in Gauteng is reaching unacceptable proportions, and more innovative measures need to be deployed to combat crime in the province.” Said the committee in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The committee further said the CCTV cameras will help reduce crime in areas such as townships, business districts, schools, and public spaces. It has called on residents to also be active in the fight against crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
