The controversy stems from the April 20th broadcast, which featured teenage husband Siyacela Dlamuka threatening to beat his wife Thando Msomi with a sjambok during a heated argument. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The scene has prompted widespread calls for the show’s cancellation. “Media platforms have a moral and social responsibility to promote content that upholds the dignity, safety, and rights of all individuals,” the JCPS stated in their condemnation. “Broadcasting acts of domestic abuse or violence in any form\u2014whether under the guise of reality television or entertainment\u2014is a gross violation of this responsibility. It sends a dangerous message that violence can be exploited for public spectacle.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The JCPS has called for the channel to review its programming choices, particularly regarding content that potentially trivializes gender-based violence against women. Prominent activist organization Women for Change has also criticized the show, accusing Moja Love of normalizing abuse for ratings. “By broadcasting such abuse without adequate intervention and accountability, Moja Love is normalising and trivialising gender-based violence, sending the harmful message that abuse is acceptable if it brings in viewers,” the group stated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
