The National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), General Fannie Masemola, has ordered the mobilisation of maximum resources to track down two suspects who shot, killed, and disarmed two on-duty police officers in Ivory Park, Johannesburg, on Friday evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to SAPS, the officers \u2014 a Sergeant and a Constable attached to the Ivory Park Police Station \u2014 were conducting crime-prevention duties in Ivory Park Extension 9 when they were ambushed by unknown attackers. Both members were fatally shot at the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The suspects fled with two SAPS pistols, an SAPS rifle and two cellphones before disappearing from the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the attack, the Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, visited the crime scene and appointed a team of seasoned detectives and specialised units to hunt down the killers and recover the stolen state firearms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
General Masemola condemned the continued targeting of police officers, saying such attacks undermine the authority of the State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\u201cBetween 01 April and 30 September 2025, the SAPS sadly lost six police officers who were killed in the line of duty. We are doing everything possible as management to ensure members are always operationally ready by providing them with resources and ensuring they attend refresher courses and regular maintenance shooting exercises.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
To all our law enforcement officers out there, don\u2019t die with the resources that we have given you. Always be vigilant and act decisively when your life or the lives of the communities we serve is under threat,\u201d said General Masemola.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
