A multidisciplinary law enforcement operation in Diepsloot on Saturday night resulted in the arrest of 42 undocumented foreign nationals and more than 13 other suspects for various offences.

The arrests were made during Operation Shanela II, led by the Gauteng Provincial Head for Police Emergency Services (PES), Brigadier Kubendran Govender, and the Provincial Head for Operational Response Services (ORS), Brigadier Levy.

Police said the operation included roadblocks, stop-and-searches, vehicle checkpoints and inspections of liquor outlets as part of ongoing efforts to combat crime in the area.

More than 13 suspects were arrested for offences including driving under the influence of alcohol and selling liquor without valid licences.

During the operation, six liquor outlets found to be operating without valid licences were shut down. Police also seized a vehicle with a tampered engine number for further investigation.

The South African Police Service said Operation Shanela II forms part of ongoing crime prevention initiatives aimed at increasing police visibility, enforcing the law and improving community safety across Gauteng.

Police have indicated that similar operations will continue throughout the province as part of efforts to clamp down on criminal activities.
