SASSA BRINGS FORWARD GRANT PAYMENT DATES AHEAD OF ELECTIONS

JOHANNESBURG – Social grant beneficiaries will receive their payments earlier than initially scheduled after the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) revised its payment dates ahead of the local government elections.Under the revised schedule, older persons’ grants will be paid on 30 October, disability grants on 2 November and children’s grants on 3 November. The changes follow concerns that the original payment schedule could clash with election day, which has been declared a public holiday.SASSA spokesperson Dr Paseka Letsatsi said the agency approached National Treasury after identifying the potential clash.Disability grants were initially scheduled for 4 November, older persons’ grants for 3 November and children’s grants for 5 November.SASSA said the adjustment was aimed at ensuring the smooth administration of grant payments around the elections. The agency has urged beneficiaries not to visit its offices unnecessarily, confirming that payments will be processed according to the revised dates.Beneficiaries will be able to access their money through retailers and banks using their SASSA cards once payments have been made.
