MACHIDI ON MOTION

By Staff

When the president announced first lockdown of the country last year March some people were wondering where will they get their meal and how since they were meant to stay home that is when Tonic Machidi who is a community activist and a humanitarian in Diepsloot saw the need to start a food drive campaign in the community.

Diepsloot is one of the communities that is facing high unemployment rate ,  that is what motivated Machidi to start a food drive campaign called Xa mina ixa wena meaning what is mine its yours.

Machidi is the founder of the food drive campaign one day he would like to be able to set up the soup kitchen for the needy. Machidi aims at feeding 365 families motivated by the 365 days of the year. Since the campaign started they have managed to feed 50 families and they are still looking for donations to be able to feed more families by the end of 2021.  “The president of the country said the food parcels will be distributed in Diepsloot but that didn’t happen, then at that time we had enough in my house I then told my wife that I was going to share what we have with the community of Olievenhoutbosch last year December”. Machidi and his wife managed to feed 20 families in December 2020. He now see the need of keeping the food drive going since he saw the struggle that unemployed people are going through.

To those who are willing to donate food they can contact him on his cell phone number 067 272 7636. Machidi welcomes any sort of help or donation.
