Radio personality, on-stage MC, and Diepsloot community activist Lindelani Malaka famously known as Lee MySunflower, saw the need to start a podcast that addresses real-life issues that include kasi hustle, and social ills, Malaka’s first episode premiered on the 15th of November 2023 which got good respond from the audience.
Having a radio background Malaka saw Podcast as a step away from radio since Malaka and her co-host William Kholo Sekgobela who is famously known as Lalas Kholo on the airwaves, have a broadcasting background podcast was an easy way to go. “Podcast is flexible in terms of the content and guest that we bring an interview. There are no regulations around it and it is easy to start since it doesn’t require much equipment. Having the passion for the community, the podcast allows us to tell our stories through our people and give a better perspective also because we are moving into the digital world where people don’t just want to hear and see as well and that’s what the podcast allows.” Said Malaka.
The Kasi Uncover podcast is more educational and inspirational than motivational. The podcast teaches and instills hope in those who have lost it, this is the podcast that is very close to people from the township.
Malaka had to encounter some challenges like any other business she had to find a dedicated and loyal team that knew the dynamics of production and also dealt with guests that put a no show, even with those challenges Malaka made it a point that the show must go on.
“Find your niche and what makes you different then start. Do not overthink it. You will make mistakes, you are bound to make mistakes and it’s part of growth just don’t lose yourself to your mistakes.” Said Malaka
