The City of Johannesburg has announced a ban on street bashes for the entire festive season, warning that all illegal and non-compliant events will be shut down immediately.
The decision follows a recent incident in Soweto where an unauthorised street gathering turned violent, prompting renewed concerns over public safety. City authorities say the ban is aimed at preventing injuries, crime, and damage to property during the busy festive period.
Law enforcement agencies, including the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department, will intensify patrols and enforcement across the city. Organisers of illegal events risk fines, equipment confiscation, and possible criminal charges.
Residents are encouraged to report illegal street bashes via the City’s tip-off line on 078 221 0419.
