Riverside View Residents Await Premier’s Office Response on Public School Demand

Residents of Riverside View are awaiting a formal response from the Gauteng Premier’s Office after submitting a memorandum demanding the urgent establishment of a public school in the community.
The memorandum was handed over to Mr Lucky Mabasa of SDI at the Premier’s Office, who committed to submitting it to Premier Panyaza Lesufi and providing an acknowledgement receipt within 48 hours. The Premier’s Office has since acknowledged receipt of the memorandum and indicated that it will review the submission and provide timelines for action regarding the establishment of a public school in Riverside View.
The community has given the Premier’s Office seven days to provide a written response outlining clear timelines and commitments for the construction of the school.
Riverside View, established in 2015, has grown into a densely populated residential area with thousands of households but no public school serving local learners. According to community representatives, approximately 80% of children travel daily to Diepsloot to attend school, creating safety concerns and financial pressure for families.
The memorandum states that the absence of a local school has forced learners to rely on bus transport, which has been affected by breakdowns, unreliable service, and transport disruptions, resulting in missed school days for many learners.
Community leadership says engagements with the Gauteng Department of Education on the matter date back to 2020, and that land has already been allocated for the development of a school in Riverside View, making the project both feasible and urgent.
Residents are calling for the immediate prioritisation of the school project, clear implementation timelines, and transparent communication between government, the developer, and the community.
