The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating the murder of 16-year-old Thabani Mazibuko, who was allegedly shot by a police officer in Diepsloot.
It is understood that two police officers were attempting to leave the area with the boy’s female friends when a scuffle broke out, which reportedly led to the fatal shooting.
Police, however, claim that the teenager was attempting to hijack a police vehicle when officers opened fire.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Gauteng has confirmed that cases of murder, attempted murder, and malicious damage to property have been opened as investigations continue.
