Illegal Zimbabwean Immigrant Sentenced to Three Life Terms for Rape and Attempted Murder

Mlungisi has been sentenced to three life terms for the rape of Warona and attempted murder, marking a significant development in the case involving the young girl who suffered horrific abuse.

According to community member Mavis Lepelle, the High Court sentenced Mlungisi to life imprisonment for vaginal rape, a further life term for anal rape and another life sentence for attempted murder. He was also sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for being in South Africa illegally.

Lepelle said DNA evidence presented in court reportedly linked the accused to the crime. She further indicated that his explanations failed to provide a convincing account of the evidence against him and that he showed no remorse for the suffering endured by the child.

The presiding judge reportedly described Mlungisi as a “monster” when handing down the sentence.

The case has highlighted the devastating impact of sexual violence against children and the importance of ensuring that young victims receive the protection and support they need.

Although the sentence marks a significant step in the pursuit of justice, it cannot undo the physical and emotional trauma Warona has endured. Her recovery will require continued care, protection and support to help her rebuild her life.

The case also serves as a reminder that children are never responsible for the abuse inflicted upon them. The responsibility lies solely with the perpetrator.

As Warona continues her journey towards healing, her well-being, safety and future remain paramount. She deserves to grow up in an environment where she feels protected, supported and free from fear.

The outcome underscores the importance of protecting vulnerable children, reporting abuse and ensuring that crimes against minors are taken seriously.
