DIEPSLOOT CRIME TRENDS.

Diepsloot Police Station Commander Brigadier Koena Moichela painted a concerning picture regarding the crime rates in Diepsloot. 
These are some the high crime rates and contributing factors in the area: 
-HUMAN TRAFFICKING : Underage children, mostly Mozambican nationals are trafficked and used as labourers.
-MURDER: Murder has increased by 15.6% in Diepsloot. 
-ROBBERY : aggravated robbery cases are increasing 
-GENDER BASED VIOLENCE : assaults and GBV has increased by 40.4% 
-ILLEGAL TAVERNS AND SPAZA SHOPS :taverns operating without licenses & spaza shops illegally selling alcohol. 
SEXUAL ASSAULT : Slight decline in sexual offences but remains a concern 
-VIOLENT COMMUNITY : Diepsloot residents often resort to violence in conflicts. 
-ALCOHOL ABUSE : Alcohol abuse is common in Diepsloot and plays a role in increasing cases of violence especially on weekends. 
– POOR SERVICES :  congestion, poor lighting, bad roads & a lack of spatial planing contribute to the high levels of crime. 99% of contact crimes occurs night in Diepsloot.
