PRETORIA — Several motorists faced a dangerous morning commute today after falling victim to a deliberate “spiking” incident on the N14 Highway near the Diepsloot off-ramp.
According to reports, unknown perpetrators strategically placed rocks across all three lanes of the highway during the early morning hours, resulting in significant damage to multiple vehicles.Among the affected vehicles, a Fiat Uno sustained the most severe damage with a destroyed tire, damaged rim, and broken CV joint.
A Toyota Hilux lost two tires in the incident, while a Ford Ranger suffered damage to one tire.Authorities have not yet released information about potential injuries or whether any suspects have been apprehended in connection with the incident.
This type of criminal activity, commonly referred to as “spiking,” involves deliberately placing objects on roadways to disable vehicles, often as a prelude to robbery or other criminal activity. Similar incidents have been reported periodically in the area.
