Commuters in the Menlyn area are being urged to exercise caution following a warning from the Menlyn Taxi Association about criminals operating fake taxis in the vicinity of Menlyn Casino.
According to the association, perpetrators have been posing as legitimate Menlyn taxi operators, kidnapping unsuspecting passengers who enter their vehicles.
The criminals reportedly target individuals around the casino and surrounding areas.”We strongly advise all passengers to only board taxis at the official Menlyn platforms,” said a spokesperson for the association. “This ensures you’re getting into a verified vehicle operated by our registered drivers.”The taxi association emphasized that passengers should remain vigilant at all times, particularly when traveling alone or at night. They recommend verifying taxi credentials before boarding and being wary of vehicles that don’t display proper identification.
Local authorities have acknowledged the reports and encouraged anyone with information about suspicious activities to contact police immediately.
