Water Crisis: Diepsloot Residents Face Unplanned Service Interruption

Residents across multiple extensions in Diepsloot are experiencing water shortages today following an emergency pipe repair operation.

Johannesburg Water crews responded to a 200mm AC burst pipe on Ingonyama Street, forcing officials to shut off supply to the affected area.

According to Johannesburg Water, technicians are currently on site working to resolve the issue. The utility estimates repairs will be completed by 15:30 today, though residents should prepare for low water pressure or complete service interruption until work is finished.

To mitigate the impact on the community, emergency water tanks have been deployed at strategic locations across the affected extensions:- Extension 5: One tank placed at the local school- Extension 6: Two water tanks available- Extension 9: A tank is accessible near Hlophe Butchery- Extension 7: Water supply available at Ha Magogo Tavern- Additional tanks positioned at Mayibuye and TangananiCommunity members are advised to collect water from these temporary stations until regular service resumes.

Johannesburg Water has not provided information about what caused the pipe to burst, but aging infrastructure has been a recurring challenge throughout the metro area.
