Nhlamulo Precilla Makamu, a young learner who had been missing since 28 May, has been found safe after it was discovered she had been staying in a shack with her boyfriend.

Her disappearance had caused concern among family members and the community.According to her mother, Rose Makamu, once Nhlamulo was found, she was taken to the police station and later to a clinic to ensure her wellbeing. She is now back home, safe with her family.

The situation sparked concern across Diepsloot and surrounding areas, raising important questions about the safety and choices of young people, especially school-going children.

Shika, a local community activist who played a key role in locating Nhlamulo, urged parents and guardians to take immediate action when a child goes missing.

“Don’t wait. Open a case with the police and report the situation to local community activists. The sooner we know, the faster we can act,” said Shika.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of communication between parents and children, as well as the role of the community in protecting its youth. It also highlights the need for continuous awareness and education around the risks young people may face when they step out of school or home without guidance.

Let’s continue working together to keep our children safe and informed.
