Riverside Woman Raped by Two Men — Community Activist Ensures One Suspect Is Arrested

A rape case in Riverside took a dramatic turn on Tuesday when community leader Jacob Phaswane Shika intervened to ensure justice followed proper legal channels while protecting both victim and suspect from mob violence.

The incident began when a rape victim contacted Shika at her workplace, reporting that she had been sexually assaulted by two men. The visibly distressed woman was immediately taken to a local clinic for medical attention and examination.

Following the clinic visit, Shika obtained contact information of the suspects from the victim, who knew her attackers. Acting swiftly, Shika coordinated with local authorities to locate one of the alleged perpetrators and facilitated his immediate arrest.

The situation nearly escalated when community members learnt that the suspect is found, intending to take the law into their own hands. However, Shika’s quick intervention prevented the suspect from being assaulted by the angry residents, ensuring he remained in police custody unharmed.

Shika praised the Diepsloot Police Station for their professional handling of the case and swift response to the report. The police’s efficiency in processing the arrest has been noted as exemplary by community leaders.

Despite the progress in the case, one suspect remains at large, and police continue their investigation to locate the second perpetrator.

The victim, who remains deeply traumatized by the ordeal, has been identified as needing ongoing psychological counseling and support services to aid in her recovery.

This case highlights both the challenges of sexual violence in the community and the importance of proper legal procedures over vigilante justice.

Community leaders like Shika play a crucial role in bridging the gap between victims, law enforcement, and community members seeking immediate retribution.
