Panga Boys Terrorise Extension 12 Residents as Commuters Fear Early-Morning Attacks

Residents of Extension 12 in Diepsloot are raising concerns over alleged robberies involving suspects armed with pangas, reportedly targeting people travelling to work in the early hours of the morning.
According to a resident who spoke to Diepsloot News on Sunday, 25 October, the alleged incidents have left commuters fearful of leaving their homes before sunrise.
The resident said the suspects are believed to be in their 20s or younger and are allegedly targeting people making their way to taxi ranks to catch transport to work.
Some residents who would normally leave home at around 04:30 have reportedly delayed their departure until 05:00 because of safety concerns. However, this has created another challenge, with commuters worried about arriving late for work.
The resident also indicated that some victims may be reluctant to report incidents to the police because of fear.
Residents are appealing to the South African Police Service (SAPS) to increase police visibility and conduct patrols during the early morning hours to help protect commuters.
Diepsloot News will seek further information from SAPS regarding the allegations and the residents’ concerns
