Diepsloot residents left without water amid scorching heat

Diepsloot residents have been left frustrated and struggling without water since Friday, with complaints continuing into Sunday morning, 1 November, despite assurances that water supply would be restored.

Residents took to community WhatsApp groups throughout Saturday to express their frustration, reporting dry taps, difficulties accessing water and a lack of clear communication regarding the ongoing interruption.

Some residents said they had been informed that water would be restored at 05:00 on Saturday. However, by later in the day, many households were still without supply, leaving families struggling to meet their basic needs amid the hot weather.

The situation has raised concerns about sanitation, particularly for households unable to flush toilets, wash clothes or maintain basic hygiene. Parents have also expressed concern about preparing their children’s school uniforms ahead of the new week.

Residents further complained that water tankers were not readily available to assist affected households, leaving some scrambling to find alternative sources of water.

By Sunday morning, the situation remained unresolved in some areas. Residents in Lion Park reported having no water since Saturday night, while another resident reported a similar problem in Olivedale. Community members subsequently suggested alternative water collection points, including a location opposite the ZCC church in Extension 10, where water was reportedly available at R5 per bucket.

Residents have called on local councillors and relevant authorities to provide clear updates on the cause of the interruption, the expected restoration time and the availability of water tankers.

Some community members also questioned why Diepsloot repeatedly experiences water supply disruptions, expressing frustration over what they described as recurring service delivery challenges.

As of Sunday morning, residents were still seeking reliable information on when their taps would run dry no more, with many saying the prolonged interruption had become increasingly difficult to endure.
