JB Marks Road to close temporarily for upgrade works in Diepsloot

DIEPSLOOT – JB Marks Road, between Extension 1 and Extension 6, will be temporarily closed from 19 to 30 October 2026 to allow for construction works under the Diepsloot Public Environment Upgrade (PEU) project.

The Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA), on behalf of the City of Johannesburg, said the closure is necessary for final preparatory work ahead of asphalt surfacing.

The road is expected to reopen to traffic on 1 November 2026, subject to the successful completion of the work.

The closure will affect residents and road users in Wards 95 and 113, with motorists urged to plan their journeys and use alternative routes during the construction period.

Those travelling from Diepsloot Mall to Diepsloot South Clinic are advised to use 1st Avenue, Plum Street and Ingonyama Street. Road users travelling from Ingonyama Street, Ubuntu Drive or Gateside Avenue can use Ndimatsheloni Street as an alternative route.

The JDA has urged residents, pedestrians and motorists to avoid entering the closed road and warned against removing or bypassing barricades, road signs and other safety measures at the construction site.

The agency apologised for the inconvenience, saying the closure forms part of efforts to complete the upgrade and provide residents with a safer, more accessible road and culvert bridge for walking and commuting.

The JDA said any changes to the construction schedule or reopening date would be communicated to affected communities.
