JMPD Community Outreach Team Engages Youth During Diepsloot School Holidays Program

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Community Outreach Team joined forces with FAMSA during the School Holidays Program held at the Diepsloot Sports Grounds on Sunday, 6 October 2025. The initiative aimed to keep young people active, entertained, and positively engaged during the school break.

The event, filled with sports and interactive activities, drew hundreds of children and teenagers from across the township. It offered a safe and fun space for them to spend their time productively while learning about community values and personal safety.

JMPD officers took time to interact with learners, parents, and local coaches, sharing insights on crime prevention and the importance of staying away from negative influences. During these conversations, several community members and coaches raised serious concerns about the growing presence of gangs in the area and how they have been harassing young people.

A representative from the JMPD Community Outreach Team emphasized that such programs are not only about recreation but also about building trust and strengthening relationships between law enforcement and the community.

“We believe that engaging with our youth through sports and open dialogue is one of the best ways to guide them toward better choices and discourage involvement in criminal activities,” the representative said.

The partnership between JMPD, FAMSA, and local stakeholders continues to show the importance of collaboration in promoting safety and unity.

As the school holidays wrap up, the message remains clear: keeping our youth involved, supported, and heard is key to building safer and stronger communities
