The Sedumedi Hope Foundation hosted an inspiring Cancer Awareness Drive in Diepsloot, focusing on early screening, health education, and lifestyle wellness. The event brought together health professionals, volunteers, and community members — all united in the fight against cancer.
Sister Rebecca Mogale from Sasol and LoveLife reminded attendees that cancer is an abnormal growth of cells in the body, urging everyone to get tested early. “The earlier the screening, the better,” said Sister Mogale. “Many people avoid testing, but even if you don’t know, cancer can still attack. That’s why we always advocate for regular screening.”
Sister Leya Morumudi encouraged residents to stay consistent with check-ups. “If you are HIV positive, do screening once every year,” she advised. “If you are HIV negative, do it every three years — unless there are abnormalities.” She also urged families with a history of cancer to ensure their children are checked and monitored early.
Adding to the day’s activities, mobile clinics were on-site to provide free screenings for volunteers and community members, giving people the opportunity to get tested on the spot.
To promote overall wellness, participants also joined a yoga session, highlighting the importance of physical and mental health as part of a healthy lifestyle.
Through events like these, the Sedumedi Hope Foundation continues to lead the way in cancer education, community outreach, and early detection, reminding residents that awareness and healthy living can save lives.
