Frustration is mounting in the Riverside community as parents continue to face significant challenges in getting their children to school.
With no local educational facility, residents are forced to transport their children long distances to Diepsloot, a situation that has become increasingly untenable for many families.
“We’re tired of spending hours and money on transporting our children to schools far from our community,” said a concerned parent from Riverside. “Why should our children suffer daily bus rides when the government could build a school right here in Riverside?”
The community’s primary grievance centers on the lack of a local school, which forces parents to rely on unreliable bus transportation. Many parents describe the current situation as a significant financial burden and a potential risk to their children’s education and safety.
Another concerned Riverside parent, shared her concerns: “The daily bus trips are expensive and exhausting for our children. Some kids leave home as early as 5 AM and return late in the evening. This is not conducive to learning or a healthy childhood.”
Local community leaders have been lobbying the Department of Education to address the school infrastructure deficit in Riverside.
They argue that the current transportation arrangement is not just inconvenient but potentially discriminatory, as it places an undue burden on families who cannot afford alternative education options.
An education department spokesperson, when contacted, stated that they are “reviewing infrastructure needs” in the area, but no concrete plans have been announced for a school in Riverside.
The community remains adamant. “We pay our taxes. We deserve a local school,” Parent emphasizes. “Our children have a right to quality education without having to travel long distances daily.”
As the debate continues, Riverside residents are organizing community meetings and preparing petitions to escalate their demand for a local school, hoping to finally secure a solution that prioritizes their children’s educational needs.
